I am the good shepherd.
The good shepherd lays down his life for the sheep
The hired hand is not the shepherd who owns the sheep
The hired hand runs away
because he is a hired hand
and cares nothing for the sheep
I am the good shepherd
(John 10)

Give the hungry their bread
and they will follow you
Serve a scapegoat on the table
and they will only worship you
if only you know seen the truth
then your followers will believe you blindly

The first impression of this picture might be a sense of blasphemy, but that wasn’t meant to be. I am inspired by the relationship between the master and the servants’ history in the western world with religion as a strong factor of power. I am inspired by Christianity as power.

If you believe in only one God, this God leads you and makes your reality. If there is only one who leads the way, there is no other way to follow. The good shepherd protects his sheep and leads them to their salvation. What makes the shepherd good, if there are no other shepherds to compare with?

This was my entry for the CGTalk challenge "Master&Servant". I have never entered an art contest before, so this was interresting - and challenging!
Wish me luck

Special thanks to Asvison-stock [link] Her elegant character really strengthened this painting.
and thanks to my dog for being such a great fur-model :)

edit: colors and brightness. also sorted out the knee problem. there will be more decent editing before I make it available for print.

edit: Edited quite much. Lets just say I finished it.. Prints of this one is on its way right now

When I am gone, it won't be long before I disturb you in the dark

I really like how all the 'sheep' are looking in different directions, and not just at their 'shepherd'. This is a really cool picture.

oh my..it's complete! horrah.
did you still decided to look at my cross as a reference? it doesn't look like it.
my favorite aspect is the grabbing at the shepherdess's dress tails;
it captures the desire quite well...almost desperate.
:icontwistoffate05:
thought provoking and very well executed...blasphemy doesnt have to be a negative word ;) Nice work.

Desperation is the raw material of drastic change. Only those who can leave behind everything they have ever believed in can hope to escape.
